SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/drone-stable-air-steady-precipitation
Stable air usually brings which combination?
Poor visibility and steady precipitation, with smooth air and flat layered clouds.
- Poor visibility and steady precipitation ✔
- Good visibility and pop-up showers
- Rough air and towering clouds
Why: Stable air resists rising, so clouds spread out in flat layers. You get smooth air, but haze, fog and steady rain or drizzle can hang around.
Huh, didn't know that: Stratiform clouds and fog are the classic stable-air clouds; cumuliform clouds signal unstable air.
Why did the cloud break up with the fog? It needed some space.
