SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/drone-weather-front-definition
In aviation weather, what is a front?
The zone between two different air masses.
- A line connecting points of equal pressure
- The zone between two different air masses ✔
- The leading edge of a single thunderstorm
Why: Air masses leave their source regions and run into air with different properties. The boundary zone between them is a front, where temperature, humidity and wind often change quickly.
Huh, didn't know that: A line connecting points of equal pressure on a weather map is called an isobar, not a front.
Why did the cold front break up with the warm front? Things were getting too heated.
