SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/eng-pascal-newton-per-square-meter
The pascal, the SI unit of pressure and stress, equals what?
One newton per square meter (1 Pa = 1 N/m²).
- One newton per square meter ✔
- One newton times one meter
- One kilogram per cubic meter
Why: Pressure is force spread over an area. One pascal is tiny, so engineers usually work in kilopascals, megapascals and gigapascals.
Huh, didn't know that: Standard air pressure at sea level is about 101.3 kPa, roughly 101,300 newtons on every square meter.
Why was the pascal so calm? It never let pressure get to it, only spread it out.
