Why shouldn't you run an extension cord under a rug?
Never hide an extension cord under a rug: trapped heat can start a fire.
- Someone could trip over the bump
- The cord can't cool off and could start a fire ✔
- Stepping on it wears a line in the rug
Why: A covered cord traps its own heat, and that heat can start a fire. Extension cords are meant for short-term use, not as permanent wiring. If you need one all the time, it's time to add more outlets.
Huh, didn't know that: If you need one all the time, it's time to add more outlets.
