What is contribution margin per unit?
It is unit price minus unit variable cost.
- Unit price plus fixed cost
- Unit price minus variable cost ✔
- Cash divided by customers
Why: Contribution margin shows how much one sale contributes toward fixed costs and then profit. Costs that vary with the sale must be subtracted first.
Huh, didn't know that: A positive contribution margin does not guarantee overall profit because fixed costs remain.
Contribution margin always brings something to the table.
