Should you run hot or cold water down the drain while using the garbage disposal?

Cold water. It keeps grease solid so the blades can chop it up.

Why: If you use hot water, it melts the fat, which then slips past the disposal and clogs your pipes further down as it cools. Cold water keeps it hard so the disposal can grind it.
