SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/ham-satellite-control-operator
Who may control a station using an amateur satellite?
Any amateur authorized on the satellite's uplink frequency may control it.
- Only Amateur Extra operators
- Any amateur allowed on the uplink frequency ✔
- General operators with satellite certification
Why: The needed privilege depends on the satellite uplink frequency. Any amateur whose license permits transmission there may serve as control operator.
Huh, didn't know that: No satellite certificate or club membership is needed; your license class and the uplink frequency decide.
Why did the satellite operator look up? The uplink was calling.
