SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/hame-chebyshev-filter
Which filter type has ripple in the passband and a sharp cutoff?
The Chebyshev filter trades passband ripple for a sharper cutoff.
- Butterworth filter
- Passive op-amp filter
- Chebyshev filter ✔
Why: A Chebyshev design allows small ripples in the passband. In return it rolls off faster than a Butterworth filter of the same size.
Huh, didn't know that: An elliptical filter has an extremely sharp cutoff with one or more notches in the stop band (E7C06).
Some DSP engineers, faced with a problem, think, I know, I'll use an FIR filter. Now they have a convoluted problem.
