The National Electrical Code's breaker panel labeling rule says each circuit's label must do what?
Tell that circuit apart from every other circuit, by its specific use.
- Show the wire color inside the wall
- List the date the breaker was installed
- Tell that circuit apart from every other one ✔
Why: NEC 408.4 asks for a circuit directory that names each circuit's purpose clearly enough to tell it apart from the rest. A label like 'outlets' on ten breakers does not pass; 'kitchen counter outlets' does.
Huh, didn't know that: On a home panel, the circuit directory goes on the face of the panel door or inside it.
My breaker panel said 'misc' on six breakers. That's not a label, that's a mystery novel.
