SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/horse-ride-stirrup-width
How much wider than your boot should a stirrup be?
About 1/2 to 3/4 inch wider at the ball of the foot.
- Exactly the same width
- Twice as wide as the boot
- About 1/2 to 3/4 inch wider ✔
Why: Missouri Extension says stirrups should be 1/2 to 3/4 inch wider than your boot at the ball of the foot. Too small and a foot can get caught; too big and you lose the stirrup.
Huh, didn't know that: Missouri Extension says stirrups that are too large are easier to lose and can unbalance a rider.
Why did the stirrup go on a diet? It wanted to be just a half inch wider than the boot.
