SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/horse-slow-feed-net-time
In a UMN study, how long did horses take to finish a meal from small-holed slow-feed hay nets?
About 6.5 hours.
- 20 minutes
- 2 hours
- 6.5 hours ✔
Why: Small-holed nets make a horse nibble slowly, like grazing does. That keeps the mouth and gut busy longer. UMN notes small nets are not practical for every horse.
Huh, didn't know that: UMN says horses typically need about 4 to 5 feedings to adjust to eating from the nets.
Why couldn't the horse dance? It had two left feet.
