SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/hunt-action-definition

What does the 'action' of a firearm do?

It loads, fires and ejects the cartridge or shell.

  1. Controls how far the bullet travels
  2. Loads, fires and ejects the ammunition ✔
  3. Measures the recoil

Why: The three basic parts of a modern firearm are the action, barrel and stock. The action is the working heart that handles the ammunition. Common types are bolt, lever, pump, break and semi-automatic.

Huh, didn't know that: The barrel is the metal tube the projectile passes through, and the stock supports the action.

The dad joke
Why did the firearm action get a movie deal? It was full of action.
