How should you get your firearm up into a tree stand?

Unloaded, pulled up on a haul line after you are strapped in.

  1. Unloaded, raised with a haul line ✔
  2. Slung on your back while climbing
  3. Loaded, so you are ready at the top

Why: Never climb with anything in your hands or on your back. Once you are up and attached, haul up your unloaded gun or bow and gear. Lower gear on the side of the tree away from your path down.

Huh, didn't know that: Maryland DNR says broadheads should be covered before raising or lowering a bow on a haul line.
