Mud is stuck in your barrel and you cannot get it all out. What should you do?

Stop hunting with that firearm until it can be properly cleaned.

  1. Fire one shot to blow it out
  2. Keep hunting and use lighter loads
  3. Stop hunting with that firearm ✔

Why: Even a small plug of mud or snow can cause dangerous pressure and burst a barrel. Point the muzzle safely, unload, and push the obstruction out from the breech. If it will not come out, the gun is done for the day.

Huh, didn't know that: The NSSF says even excess oil or grease in the bore can raise pressure dangerously.

The dad joke
Why did the pig become a hunting guide? It already knew everything about mud.
