You hear something moving in the brush that might be game. What should you do?

Positively identify it before raising your gun. Never shoot at a sound or movement.

  1. Identify the target before shouldering your gun ✔
  2. Aim at the noise in case it is game
  3. Look through your scope to check

Why: Shooting at a sound or movement is how people get mistaken for game. Hunter education says to use binoculars, not a rifle scope, to look at something you have not identified. Pointing a scope means pointing the gun.

Huh, didn't know that: In low light at dawn or dusk, hunter education says to wait for better light or pass the shot.

The dad joke
Why do hunters carry binoculars? Because seeing is believing.
