How does hunter education say firearms and ammunition should be stored at home?

Locked up, with ammunition stored separately.

  1. Loaded in a closet for quick access
  2. Together in the same unlocked case
  3. Locked up, with ammunition stored separately ✔

Why: Storing guns locked and unloaded, with ammunition locked somewhere else, keeps them away from children and anyone not allowed to use them. A gun safe or locking cabinet is best. A trigger lock or action lock in a case also helps.

Huh, didn't know that: TPWD says rifles and shotguns should be stored muzzle down so oil does not drain into the action or stock.

The dad joke
Why did the gun safe never get invited to parties? It was too guarded.
