In a hotel room, how do you say 'The TV won't turn on' in Japanese?
Terebi ga tsukanain desu ga... (テレビがつかないんですが…)
- Eakon ga kikanain desu ga... (エアコンがきかないんですが…)
- Terebi ga mitai desu. (テレビが見たいです。)
- Terebi ga tsukanain desu ga... (テレビがつかないんですが…) ✔
Why: The nai-form plus n desu ga explains a problem politely. The wrong choices say 'The air conditioner isn't working' and 'I want to watch TV'.
Huh, didn't know that: The staff replies 'Shooshoo omachi kudasai', meaning please wait a minute.
The TV in the ryokan would not turn on. I took it as a sign it needed a rest, and so did I.
