- You find a hurt hiker by the trail. What is the very first thing to check?
Show the answer
Whether the scene is safe for you. First aid starts with Check, Call, Care. You check the scene first, because if you get hurt too, now there are two people who need help.
- A friend has a deep cut that is bleeding hard. What should you do first to slow it?
Show the answer
Press firmly on it with a clean cloth. Firm, steady pressure right on the wound is the main way to control bleeding. Keep pressing until it stops, and call 911 if the cut is deep.
- You're pressing on a cut and blood soaks through the cloth. What next?
Show the answer
Add more cloth on top and keep pressing. Mayo Clinic says to add more gauze or cloth on top of the soaked bandage instead of taking it off. Then keep up firm, steady pressure.
