SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/mowing-height
How short should you cut your grass when you mow the lawn?
Leave it tall. Never cut off more than one third of the grass blade.
- As short as the mower goes
- Exactly one inch tall
- Never more than one third off ✔
Why: Cutting grass too short removes the leaves it uses for solar power. Scalping the lawn makes the grass weak and allows weeds to take over.
Huh, didn't know that: Taller grass also shades the dirt, which keeps the soil cool and saves water.
Why did the lawn mower go to therapy? It had deep seeded issues.
