SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/pilot-hold-short-solid-lines
At a runway holding position marking, on which side must you stop when told to hold short?
On the side with the solid lines.
- The dashed line side
- The solid line side ✔
- Directly on top of the lines
Why: Holding position markings are four yellow lines, two solid and two dashed. The solid lines are always on the side where the aircraft must hold. You must stop before the markings unless ATC clears you across.
Huh, didn't know that: Enhanced taxiway centerlines with yellow dashes on each side warn you up to 150 feet before a holding position marking.
Why do hold short lines win every argument? They always stand their ground.
