SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/pilot-intercept-rock-wings
How should an airplane acknowledge an interceptor's daytime command to follow?
Rock the wings and follow the interceptor.
- Rock wings and follow ✔
- Circle and land immediately
- Flash landing lights continuously
Why: An interceptor rocking its wings and turning means, 'Follow me.' The intercepted airplane acknowledges by rocking its own wings and following.
Huh, didn't know that: If equipped, an intercepted aircraft should select transponder code 7700 unless ATC directs otherwise.
The wings rocked, but the cockpit band never showed up.
