SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/pilot-ntsb-immediate-notification
Which event requires immediate notification of the NTSB, even if no one is hurt?
An in-flight fire is on the NTSB 830.5 list.
- A go-around at a towered airport
- A missed radio call
- An in-flight fire ✔
Why: NTSB rule 830.5 lists serious incidents that need immediate notice, including in-flight fire, flight control failure, and a crewmember unable to perform duties. Routine go-arounds and radio slips are not on the list.
Huh, didn't know that: The rule says to notify the nearest NTSB office immediately and by the most expeditious means available.
Why did the phone wear glasses? It lost all its contacts.
