SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/pilot-overloaded-airplane-effects
Which is an effect of flying an airplane that is over its maximum weight?
A higher stalling speed, among many other penalties.
- Shorter takeoff run
- Lower stalling speed
- Higher stalling speed ✔
Why: Extra weight demands more lift, so stall speed, takeoff speed and takeoff run all go up. Climb rate, range and maneuverability go down. The first sign of overloading usually shows up on takeoff.
Huh, didn't know that: An overloaded aircraft may not be able to leave the ground at all.
Why did the suitcase stay home? It was too heavy to take off.
