SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/pilot-third-class-minimum
Under standard medical rules for airplane flight, what minimum medical class must a private pilot hold?
Third class. It is the normal minimum for private pilot airplane privileges.
- Second class
- Third class ✔
- First class
Why: Private pilot privileges normally require at least a third-class medical. Exceptions include BasicMed and certain operations in gliders and balloons.
Huh, didn't know that: A higher class medical also works for private flying, since the rule says at least third class.
I passed my third-class medical. The doctor said my eyes were fine, but my jokes need glasses.
