SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/ru-thank-you-very-much
How do you say 'Thank you very much' in Russian?
Большое спасибо (bolshoye spasibo) means thank you very much.
- Не за что (ne za chto)
- Очень приятно (ochen priyatno)
- Большое спасибо (bolshoye spasibo) ✔
Why: Спасибо is thanks, and большое means big. Не за что is the reply 'don't mention it', and очень приятно means pleased to meet you.
Huh, didn't know that: Спасибо began as 'спаси Бог', which meant 'God save you'.
Bolshoye spasibo literally says 'big thanks', and the word big is right there.
