A friend has a deep cut that is bleeding hard. What should you do first to slow it?
Press firmly on the wound with gauze or a clean cloth.
- Run it under a cold faucet
- Press firmly on it with a clean cloth ✔
- Wave it in the air to dry
Why: Firm, steady pressure right on the wound is the main way to control bleeding. Keep pressing until it stops, and call 911 if the cut is deep.
Huh, didn't know that: Mayo Clinic says to call 911 if a wound is deep or you are not sure how serious it is.
Why did the bandage blush? It saw the wound dressing.
