Per Mayo Clinic, what kind of tourniquet should be used for life-threatening limb bleeding?
A commercially made one, used by someone trained.
- A commercially made one, by someone trained ✔
- A belt pulled as tight as possible
- A bandana tied loosely
Why: Mayo Clinic says not to use a scarf or belt as a tourniquet. A real tourniquet works well, but only in trained hands. Everyone else uses firm direct pressure and calls 911.
Huh, didn't know that: When help arrives, tell responders how long the tourniquet has been on.
Why did the belt get arrested? It held up a pair of pants.
