SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/scout-shock-lie-down-warm
A hurt friend is pale, clammy and dizzy. How should you position them for shock?
Lay them down, prop the legs slightly, keep them warm.
- Sit them up and fan them
- Lay them down, legs slightly raised, keep warm ✔
- Walk them around to wake up
Why: Pale, clammy skin, a fast pulse and dizziness can mean shock. Call 911, lay the person down, prop the legs up a bit unless it hurts, and cover them to stay warm.
Huh, didn't know that: Mayo Clinic says not to give someone in shock anything to eat or drink, because it may cause vomiting or choking.
Why was the electrician never surprised? He was used to shocks.
