You find a hurt hiker by the trail. What is the very first thing to check?

Check the scene for safety before you go to the person.

  1. Whether the scene is safe for you ✔
  2. Whether the person has a pulse
  3. Whether anyone has a camera

Why: First aid starts with Check, Call, Care. You check the scene first, because if you get hurt too, now there are two people who need help.

Huh, didn't know that: Once 911 has been called, the Red Cross says to put the dispatcher on speakerphone.
