SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/scout-timber-hitch
Which knot is made for dragging a log across the ground?
The timber hitch.
- Timber hitch ✔
- Square knot
- Taut-line hitch
Why: The timber hitch stays secure as long as you keep pulling, then loosens easily when you are done. That makes it simple to drag a log and free your rope after.
Huh, didn't know that: To tie it, you twist the rope end around itself three or more times.
Why did the log follow the Scout everywhere? It was hitched.
