SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/ski-eyes-delayed
When do snow blindness symptoms usually show up after a day in the sun?
12 hours to a day later, often that night.
- Right away, on the slope
- About 12 hours to a day later ✔
- A full week later
Why: UV damage to the eye does not hurt right away. Like a sunburn, pain often starts that evening or the next morning. Wear goggles all day, not just when it feels bright.
Huh, didn't know that: Snow blindness should start feeling better within about 24 hours. If it does not, or gets worse, get your eyes checked.
Why is it hard to ski after a fresh snow? With great powder comes great responsibility.
