SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/solar-dc-output
What kind of electricity do solar PV cells generate?
PV cells make direct current (DC).
- Alternating current (AC)
- Direct current (DC) ✔
- Static electricity
Why: Solar cells produce direct current, which flows in one direction. Homes and the grid run on AC, so an inverter converts it.
Huh, didn't know that: EIA notes DC electricity can be used to charge batteries that power DC devices.
DC or AC? The solar panel says it just wants to go straight.
