SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/solar-kw-power-rating
A home battery is rated 5 kW and 10 kWh. What does the kW rating describe?
How much power it can deliver at one time.
- How much total energy it can store
- How many years it will last
- How much power it can release at once ✔
Why: DOE separates power capacity (kW, how fast energy can be released) from energy capacity (kWh, total stored). A 5 kW, 10 kWh battery could run 5 kW of loads for about two hours.
Huh, didn't know that: DOE says storage lasting just minutes keeps a solar plant running smoothly, while longer-term storage can supply power over days or weeks.
Why do electronics make great leaders? Because they have the power.
