SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/tech-dhcp-acknowledgment
Which DHCP message confirms a client's configuration parameters?
The server confirms them with a DHCPACK message.
- DHCPACK ✔
- DHCPDISCOVER
- DHCPDECLINE
Why: After a client requests an offered configuration, the selected server sends DHCPACK with the final parameters. The message confirms that the client may use the assigned configuration.
Huh, didn't know that: A DHCP address is normally leased for a period rather than permanently owned by the client.
DHCP said ACK because the address checked out.
