SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/weld-stick-third-digit
In an AWS stick electrode code like E7018, the third digit tells you what?
The welding positions you can use it in.
- The type of flux color
- The diameter of the rod
- The welding positions it can be used in ✔
Why: The first two digits give strength. The third gives positions, and a 1 means all positions. The fourth gives coating and current type.
Huh, didn't know that: Miller says the fourth digit covers coating type and welding current (AC, DC or both).
You know what seems odd to me? Numbers that can't be divided by two.
