When can the infield fly rule be called?
Runners on first and second (or bases loaded) with fewer than two outs.
- Any pop up with two outs
- Runners on first and second, fewer than two outs ✔
- Only with the bases empty
Why: The infield fly rule applies to a fair, easy pop up with runners on first and second, or the bases loaded, before two are out. It stops fielders from dropping the ball on purpose to get a double play.
Huh, didn't know that: Line drives and bunts can never be an infield fly.
Why was the pop up so smug? It knew the rules were on its side.
