SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/bike-ride-with-traffic
When you ride a bike on the road, which way should you go?
With traffic, in the same direction as cars.
- In the same direction as traffic ✔
- Facing oncoming traffic
- Whichever side has less traffic
Why: Bikes ride with traffic, in the rightmost lane going your way. Drivers pulling out or turning look for traffic coming from the usual direction, so riding against it surprises them.
Huh, didn't know that: On a one-way street with two or more lanes, Washington and Florida let riders keep to the left side instead.
Why did the bike ride with traffic? It didn't want to go against the flow of the conversation.
