SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/cadet-change-step
What problem does Change Step fix?
It switches which foot strikes on the beat without losing cadence.
- Being on the wrong foot ✔
- Standing at close interval
- Facing the wrong rank
Why: A cadet can be matching the unit's speed but stepping on the opposite foot. Change step shifts feet within quick time so the cadet returns to the shared pattern.
Huh, didn't know that: Arm swing pauses briefly during the foot change, then resumes.
Why did the cadet change step? The other foot wanted a turn on beat.
