What does cadence measure in marching?
Cadence is the number of steps marched per minute.
- Steps per minute ✔
- People per rank
- Inches between files
Why: Cadence combines a steady step with a steady rhythm. Counting steps per minute tells the formation how quickly that rhythm moves.
Huh, didn't know that: Quick time uses a cadence of 100 to 120 steps per minute.
Why did cadence carry a metronome? It liked to step on the beat.
