SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/cadet-right-left-step
When are Right Step and Left Step used?
They move a halted unit short distances sideways.
- During double time
- For long road marches
- From a halt for short distances ✔
Why: Side steps shift a unit right or left without turning it. They begin only from a halt and are meant for small adjustments.
Huh, didn't know that: Arms remain at the sides during right and left step.
Why did the formation sidestep? The straight path needed elbow room.
