SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/cdl-class-a-combination
Which CDL class do you need for a combination over 26,000 lbs towing a trailer over 10,000 lbs?
Class A, the combination vehicle class.
- Class A ✔
- Class B
- Class C
Why: Group A covers combinations with a gross combination weight rating of 26,001 lbs or more when the towed unit is rated over 10,000 lbs. A typical tractor-trailer needs a Class A.
Huh, didn't know that: The federal rule calls the classes Groups A, B and C; states print them as license classes.
Why did the license go back to school? It wanted a little more class.
