SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/cdl-steering-avoid
When making a quick turn to avoid a hazard, what should you NOT do?
Do not brake while you are turning.
- Keep both hands on the wheel
- Turn only as much as you need
- Apply the brake while turning ✔
Why: Braking while turning can easily lock your wheels and cause a skid. Steer only as much as needed, then be ready to countersteer.
Huh, didn't know that: You can almost always turn to miss an obstacle more quickly than you can stop.
Why do good drivers keep both hands on the wheel? Two hands are better than none.
