When the belayer is ready and has checked everything, what do they answer?

"Belay on." It means the belayer is set and holding the rope.

Why: After the double checks, the belayer answers "Belay on." That tells the climber the belay is live and the belayer is paying attention.

Huh, didn't know that: Many teams add the partner's name, like "Belay on, Sam," so the call is not mixed up with the next team's.
