SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/climb-check-same-rope
In a gym with many ropes side by side, what should a climber and belayer confirm before climbing?
That they are on the same rope.
- That they are on the same rope ✔
- That the rope is a new color
- That the rope is wet
Why: With ropes hanging close together, a belayer can set up on the neighbor's strand. The AAC rope check also looks for twists and makes sure both rope ends are managed.
Huh, didn't know that: Rope is the third item in the AAC double-check list, after buckles and harness fit.
Climbing partners should always be on the same page, and the same rope.
