SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/dad-burn-cool-water
A child gets a minor burn. How long should you cool it under clean, cool, running water?
5 to 20 minutes.
- 5 to 20 minutes ✔
- About 30 seconds
- At least 1 hour
Why: Cool running water takes the heat out of the skin. Use lukewarm water if cool is not available. Go to the hospital if a child has been burned.
Huh, didn't know that: The Red Cross says to remove clothing or jewelry at the burn unless it is stuck to the skin.
What kind of water cannot freeze? Hot water.
