SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/dad-no-finger-sweep
When should you put a finger in a choking person's mouth to remove an object?
Only if you can see the object.
- Always, as the very first step
- Never, under any circumstances
- Only if you can see the object ✔
Why: Blind finger sweeps can push an object deeper. If someone stops responding, start CPR and check the mouth for a visible object between sets.
Huh, didn't know that: Lower an unresponsive choking person to a firm, flat surface before starting CPR.
