SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/dad-grease-no-water
Which thing should you never use to put out a grease or oil fire?
Water. It can make burning oil spread.
- A pan lid
- Water ✔
- A baking sheet
Why: Water can make burning oil spread and send flames around the kitchen. Use a lid or baking sheet instead, and turn off the burner.
Huh, didn't know that: The Red Cross suggests keeping a lid or cookie pan nearby whenever you cook.
I would never put out a grease fire with water. I like my kitchen to stay dry and un-fried.
