SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/dog-first-vet-visit
How soon should a newly adopted dog see a vet?
Within about a week of coming home.
- Only if it gets sick
- Within about a week ✔
- After its first birthday
Why: A first vet visit checks the dog's health and updates shots and flea and tick prevention. Humane World says to go within a week, even if the shelter already did a lot.
Huh, didn't know that: If the shelter did not already microchip, spay or neuter your dog, that first visit is the time to plan it.
Why did the dog sit in the shade at the vet? He didn't want to be a hot dog.
