SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/drone-airport-traffic-interference
What is forbidden when flying near an airport, heliport, or seaplane base?
A drone may not interfere with operations or traffic patterns.
- Taking off from private land
- Interfering with traffic patterns ✔
- Using a visual observer
Why: Part 107 prohibits interference with operations and traffic patterns at airports, heliports, and seaplane bases. This applies even where separate controlled-airspace authorization is not required.
Huh, didn't know that: A small landing area can still have aircraft traffic that a remote pilot must not disrupt.
Why did the drone avoid the traffic pattern? It did not want to cut in line.
