SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/drone-direct-supervision
Can someone without a Remote Pilot Certificate work the controls on a Part 107 flight?
Yes, under direct supervision of a remote PIC who can take over immediately.
- No, never
- Yes, if a remote PIC supervising can take over immediately ✔
- Yes, if they passed TRUST
Why: Part 107 lets an uncertificated person manipulate the controls only under direct supervision of a remote pilot in command. The remote PIC must be able to immediately take direct control.
Huh, didn't know that: A remote PIC must be designated before or during the flight and is the final authority for it.
My son flew the drone while I supervised. Now he says I am just the backup controller in his life.
